TIME SLOWLY AWAKENING:
Still Cold, Yet Waiting for Sunrise and SunsetWOVEN DESIGN - DOBBY WOVEN
Grass bent by the wind ⎮ Moss growing on an old tree ⎮ Weeping willow
I left the window slightly open, allowing the cool breeze and warm air from outside to gradually permeate the space. Though invisible, there are things that can be felt. In the deep cold of winter transitioning into spring, it is likely the solar term Ipchun (Beginning of Spring), boundary of a time that is still chilly but marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring. My heart, which had quietly hibernated through the winter, begins to stir in response to the cold wind.
I aimed to design a woven fabric that would subtly sway with the wind and even the smallest of movements. The delicate textures, though individually fine, come together to create a strong energy or movement like the phrase - “ The ordinary day makes an extraordinary day.”
I anticipate the shadows that will appear at the times of sunrise and sunset, the quiet yet powerful presence they will bring.
Using fancy yarn, wool, and blended yarns, I wove this piece on a 24H AVL dobby loom with Weavepoint software. The process involved extended, meditative engagement, channeling focus into every thread.
